Part 02 of 04

Track

Runs after

Reconcile

Tracking is the build beneath the dashboard. It starts by defining what counts as a lead or purchase. Campaign and location details then have to survive booking or checkout without the same action being counted twice. The tools vary by client. The standard does not: every event needs a business reason and a controlled test.

The dashboard looks complete. Underneath it, one purchase fires twice and the location disappears at checkout. The ad platform fills the gaps with its own model.

The work

What this part does

  1. 01

Write the conversion and revenue definitions before opening the tag manager

  2. 02

Carry source, campaign, location, and product or booking type through the real customer journey

  3. 03

Repair collection across analytics, ad platforms, the CRM, and booking or checkout tools where it breaks

  4. 04

Remove duplicate, hardcoded, and proxy events that pollute bidding and reports

  5. 05

Prove the path with controlled tests and a written QA register

Outcome

A measured customer journey that can be followed from its source to the outcome recorded by the business.

What buyers ask

  • Which tools do you work in?

Common builds involve Google Tag Manager, GA4, Google Ads, Meta, a CRM, and a separate booking or checkout system. The stack is not prescribed before the reconciliation shows what the business already has and where it breaks.

  • Does everything have to move server-side?

No. Server-side collection is used when the browser cannot carry the measurement reliably or when the business needs control the current setup cannot provide. It is not added to make the architecture look advanced.

  • How do we know the tracking works?

A controlled journey is run from source through the recorded outcome. The QA checks values, identifiers, duplicate events, and the destination reports. A tag firing is only one piece of that proof.

Check your marketing numbers

The first paid step checks the numbers and defines the build. You will know what needs fixing before you are asked to approve the larger scope.

Send your site and the systems that hold your ad spend and sales. You get a written finding that shows where the numbers disagree and how large the gap is. It also names what should be fixed first.
